Miryam. Mary Magdalene and Jesus - Novel

Reviews on Miryam:

Insight August 1997 (Einblick, August 1997):

"For convinced Christians this book may be shocking, and it may border on blasphemy to see Mary and Jesus depicted in such human ways, but the way the author is writing, it sounds authentic and very lively. Much in it is startling and worrying, for there are some things in this book which do not happen they way we know it from the Bible and the way the Church wants us to believe it. A courageous book, which deserves to be read by many people, since it deals with Love in all its dimensions."

I seldom permit myself the luxury to start reading fat books, but this one managed to enthrall me, and so I spend hours diving into the time of old Palestine at the time of Jesus of Nazareth, into which this novel leads us in a thrilling and irresistible way. Two thirds of it is the story of Mary Magdalene (Miryam), who recounts her own life before and after her meeting with Jesus and her love for him. The author uses a graphic and highly emotional style with which she succeeds in describing very convincingly the culture, everyday life, the thinking and the events surrounding the historical Jesus. Mary herself also recounts the development of her son and his childhood. The dialogues and the spiritual and philosophical sections are profound and make this book a pleasure also for demanding readers. For convinced Christians this book may be shocking, and it may border on blasphemy to see Mary and Jesus depicted in such human ways, but the way the author is writing, it sounds authentic and very lively. Much in it is startling and worrying, for there are some things in this book which do not happen they way we know it from the Bible and the way the Church wants us to believe it. A courageous book, which deserves to be read by many people, since it deals with Love in all its dimensions.

The author lives in a little village near Frankfurt (Main), lived for several years in Israel and Egypt and started writing as the result of a spiritual experience.
